Panama has taken a step forward from its traditional lack of transparency in the availability of its casualty investigation reports. The Panama Maritime Authority website is being revamped and includes casualty reports currently covering some 40 incidents. Part of the new site has been set aside for English language translations but is not yet operational.
This move towards openness is to be welcomed. The Maritime Acident Investigators International Forum, of which Panama’s maritime accident investigation department is a member, has urged its members to put casualty investigation reports online.
As yet, the loss of the M/V Rezzak is not on the Panama list of reports, it is still under investigation and a final report has yet to be released.
